Ginni,
This is a rough drawing. The whole cross section would be an octagon.

The hole is rectangular?
This is very interesting, I guess this rectangular hole allow arrows with rectangular points (cross section, for armour piercing).
What type of wood will be good to make a majra?

Ginni,
I have made them from cherry and plain pine. The wood has to be straight and not whippy.

Rounded slots or square ones work. A round arrow in a square slot usually only has two points of contact which reduces drag. A round slot with a diameter greater than the arrow might have a single point of contact making it faster still.

Thank you Bede!
Very useful information.
I have seen some pine profiles, I think I can glue them to make some kind of laminated majra. Hope it will be stiff enough.
Bamboo is almost impossible to find here, so I cannot make a korean tong-ah.
