A fragment of a very old Japanese bow.

This is where we discuss the bows, arrows, quivers and other hardware used in Asian archery.

Very cool! Is there any idea of how old it could be?

Do you know if this bow has been used? I think the bamboo on the back of the nock looks like it has never been compressed by the string. I'm probably wrong though.

Thank you dear Kviljo!

The bamboo contains almost no moisture (absolutely dry) the broken areas were made after an impact of another metall item and pink string gives the impression that sometimes was red.

its the lower part of a, i suppose broken, Yumi. i can?t say anything about its age, but it sure was braced. you can see on the wooden belly part; the string knot left pressure traces on this direct at the base of the plug. the wood is softer than bamboo outside.
i am sure this one was used as a walking-stick. Shibata Sensei has one like this in use. 8)

This is a walking stick made from an old bow. Looks to have been chosen because of the damage it sustained as a bow.

Kanjiro Shibata Sensei carried one of these, age eighty something in 1999 or 2000, World Horse Archery festival. There is another family member
who has assumed this title name.
