I'm currently working the horn (Sanded 6 strips today and blew through 3 beltsander bands, man, what a mess). Almost there, I'm wondering about the dimensions for the given drawweight of 40-50#. I'm thinking about 4mm core, 3mm horn, sinew 2mm.

The bow is symmetrical, approximately 24cm siyah, 10cm grip so that leaves us with a bending section of ~34cm each at 3,5cm width.

Suggestions?

My second bow has a core that looks not to different from yours in geometry.
Core is maple, a little less than 4mm thick, horn is about the same, total thickness at midlimb about 10.5mm. NtN along the belly unstrung is 122cm, and weight 480grams. I would estimate bending part of limb about 25-30cm.
That gave me a draweight of 53 pounds at 28 inches when new.
If it breaks you get to keep both parts.

To give some updates on this bow, I soaked off the ears and recut the splices, so that they're 7cm long now. In hindsight, it was pretty silly of me to assume that the bow would turn out short with recutting. I lost like 2cm on each limb.

One hornstrip is attached, the 2nd one will be applied tomorrow. The bone plates at the grip were attached the day before.

I went back to Lurz's thread and thought about the plates for the ears. Antler is my material of choice. How long & wide should the raw pieces be? Is highland horn the place to shop?

Schoud be if haven't got hunter friends. Preferd the long pieces without many points. Caribou schould be good too if could get it there north. It has a more solid antler like the elks here.

The stuff from dictum wasn't usable, or either not near anything that I specified. Trying to pull some strings with hunter friends now.

Still unlucky with the antlers. Here's the bow with the first layer of sinew.

Thx. I'm a bit worried about the weaker spot on the right limb near the grip. That limb is slightly shorter, about 2cm and the same thickness as the other limb. Opinions?
