Harpoon point

Post by Gianrico » Sun Sep 18, 2005 8:09 pm

Hello,

A friend asked me if this kind of arrow/point would be adapted also in western archery. Does anyone knows the original use for this kind of point? (I supposed fishing, but I'm not sure). The point is showed at bottom left of this page:

Thanks for any help,

Best regards

Gianrico,
I think I was with Dr Grayson when that arrow was photographed for an article he wrote for Primitive Archer magazine. I will look up the article and find out what the arrow was for.

I believe some of those arrows were for seal hunting. The point came off and the arrow was weighted so that it stood upright like a flag in the water. A string tied the point to the arrow.
