Bow and arrows - the only ranged weapons, which can be judged based on early medieval Sogdian. In recent years there have been special studies of this type of weapon [158, 159; 263]. The development of the bow and arrows on the Siberian material in the early medieval traced AA Gavrilova [71]. LR Kyzlasov showed links between the Central and Sogdians bows and arrows [142, 72-77].
In Panjakent found bone medial side linings from the composite Bow. All linings trapezoid, with a cut to the back plates on the narrow side (Fig. 42, 2-6). Dimensions: length 15 and 20.5 cm, width 1.6 and 1.8 cm [32, Fig. 42, 2]. On the inner side of the mortise lines are crossed for better grip when gluing. The most accurate analogy in such overlays, as noted by LR Kyzlasov, are in the graves of Tuva VIII-IX centuries. and Bashknrii IX-X centuries. By the VIII century., As shown by AA Gavrilova on materials Siberia [71, 87-88], IV Sinitsyn, and EK Maximov on material Volga region [224, 108, 165, 72-74], emerging type of bow with only median strip. In the image at the bows Penjikent painting are clearly visible trapezoidal median lining and lamination of laminated composite bow (Fig. 42, 1, 43). Judging by the images, the length of the bow was 1.20-1.40 m (when flat).

compared with the small Scythian bow. Certainly, a large bow growing bowshot and break the power of shots. However, wearing a bow in a deflated form indicates a certain decrease in the reliability of bow - they were afraid that the bow will lose elasticity. In taut as it was only during shooting. Only to the VIII-X centuries. is the appearance of the bows, which was safe to wear in burn taut form [324, PI. 2, 47, 48]. Apparently, then, that in the case for a bow worn by two bows, also associated with low reliability of each of them. Wearing a bow when flat, even in battle, as seen in Penjikent paintings, making the transition from martial arts to small and thus have an impact on battle tactics.
