Uli; This was posted a short while ago. The arrows have special nocks. The draw hand is held palm out.

1. You need a slow-motion camera to check those two films out.

2. The bow the girl is using is obviously a light one, she can hold it at arm's length and pull the string from the bow arm's extended position.

I have never seen an authentic Islamic Persian back quiver nor is it mentioned in the manuscripts being translated at the moment. I do not doubt they existed for foot archers since there is a long history of them in the Middle East, but they are not illustrated or written about in old manuscripts from Iran. There are mentions in Mardi's Tabsirat written for Saladin of back quivers. There are some illustrations of archers or attendants carrying waist quivers over their shoulders by their belts.

The technique of shooting, as has been mentioned, is a reversed Mediterranean release without any intervention of the bow hand to hold the arrow. With the thumb release, the arrow is temporarily held by the thumb and index finger of the bow hand. The reason for this is to check the integrity of the arrow, something that would be necessary in battle, but not in a demonstration where everything would be checked out before the action.
