Reading this I remembered a historical picture of okmeydani I saw over here http://www.turkisharchery.info/?p=competitions. That implies that okmeydani is a quite hilly area. Unfortunately there is no exact information where the menzil stones are (for checking at Google Earth) in the internet. Neither is for the old ramp where they shot the arrows from (this was a bit naive hoping, I know:)).Bede wrote:Patrick,
Archers always overestimate how far their arrows have gone in unmeasured environments, especially in irregular topography. shooting at Bonneville Flats has revealed several important facts.
Anyway moving the mouse over the historical area at google earth I noticed that there is quite a difference in elevation (95 to 45 m)from west to east) over a distance of ca. 400 m.
I assume the old ottomans knew about this an choose to shoot in directions were there was not such a difference.
So can anyone here, give the gps coord. of a range stone and the belonging foot stone with the range, to crosscheck that issue!?
