I've recently received one package of dried air bladders (thank you Pazuzu). So many people told that best offer comes from Bulgaria. Best choice for those ones in making true historical reconstructions. Strongly recommended!!!!

To have such a quantity of sturgeon bladders from poaching is practically impossible. I fish the Danube a lot and they are rarer than hens teeth. There are a lot of commercial lakes growing sturgeon, which you can find a lot here in Bucharest markets (personally I dislike their meat, not very good taste because they are grown with pellets).

Sturgeon (all species) are in dire straits, like the african elephant.Uli wrote:btw why is it forbidden only until 2016 ?
1. Because of the Iron Gates dam which cut their migration routes to breeding grounds in upper Danube.
2. Also pollution diminished their food supply.
3. Studies in the US have shown that artificial hormones present in the water of major rivers are one of the cause of diminishing fish stock despite less industrial pollution. Artificial hormones are from the contraceptives (eliminated in urine -> the water ways) which millions of people are taking.
Breeding them artificially is costly and poaching still exists in the Danube Delta but mostly in Ukraine. Even CITES is reluctant to end the moratorium on sturgeon fishing which ends in 2016. Well see...
